AACE Chicago-Midwest Community:
On Thursday evening, 21 November 2024, the Chicago-Midwest Section held an event at the Oracle Industry Lab in Deerfield, IL. This was an evening of learning and networking over dinner, covering a range of topics.
BIM 4D/5D Modeling Presentation
First, we were joined by Zachary Lewis and Suhrudha Kakani from Jacobs working on the ambitious O'Hare 21 airport revitalization construction program. They delivered an informative presentation on the benefits and pitfalls around 4D/5D BIM modeling, with real world examples. Generated a lot of curiosity from the participants, especially the cost and schedule integration requirements.
Oracle Industry Lab Tour and Discussion
Next, our hosts Dennis and Linda at the Oracle Industry Lab took us on a tour of their facility. The Lab serves as a testing ground for emerging technologies supporting industries like construction, water, oil & gas, and manufacturing. They have a simulated jobsite and outdoor work trailer setup for demonstrating technology innovations.
Finally, we had a discussion with Vice President of Innovation at the Oracle Industry Lab, Burcin Kaplanoglu. He spoke to us about the future of emerging Oracle technologies like machine learning, jobsite drones/robotics for safety and inspections, and generative AI models. It was a fascinating look at what is coming over the horizon for engineering and construction.
