I wanted to throw this out to the forum to see what everyone thinks. We have been investing in Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Building Information Modeling (BIM) 4D (schedule) and 5D (Cost) for real operational management - not for marketing, and have found it incredible for demonstrating monthly delays / disruptions, lack of performance, acceleration, crew challenges, site conditions, staging, coordination planning, validation and visualization of the monthly critical path, and EV curves. We have seen significant success in the support of fabrication schedules and spooling. But this effort is just breezed over in best practices that we have reviewed. The integration of scope, schedule, and budget into one platform and there is very little on what we have termed as 5.5D (EV & performance management).
1) Has anyone else provided this service on contracts?
2) Have you seen any other benefits?
3) We often are asked for the metrics, but there is little documentation / studies that show the tremendous results we are seeing. Do you have any metrics?
