Presentation Title:
Adoption of Circular Economy Practices in Construction Projects
About the Presentation
The construction industry is at a critical turning point as organizations worldwide seek strategies to reduce waste, improve resource efficiency, and build more sustainable infrastructure. In this presentation, Idris Soliu will share his research on a framework for integrating circular economy principles into construction project planning and delivery.
His work explores practical approaches for shifting from traditional linear models to circular practices that promote reuse, recycling, and long-term value preservation—offering potential benefits in cost savings, risk mitigation, and environmental impact.
About the Presenter

Idris Soliu is a Ph.D. candidate in Construction Management at the University of Washington. His research focuses on implementing circular economy practices in the built environment, with particular emphasis on developing practical frameworks to help construction organizations integrate circular practices across the project lifecycle. His work explores how construction firms can move beyond traditional linear models toward more resource-efficient and sustainable project delivery. Idris has professional and research interests in construction estimating, construction project delivery, sustainability, and digital technologies in the built environment.
Invitation for Industry Input
As part of this ongoing research effort, Idris is actively seeking industry validation of the proposed framework. Attendees will have the opportunity to provide feedback, share real-world perspectives, and help shape a model intended to support both practitioners and researchers in advancing circularity within construction.
