Stephen Odusanya came to Canada barely five months ago with big dreams to grow professionally and provide much better outlook for his whole family. He was working as a Project/Construction Engineer in Nigeria with ExxonMobil from 2011 until prior to his immigration to Canada in the first quarter of 2018.

He aptly chose to settle in Calgary, the Oil and Gas corporate hub of Canada.

He has a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering and has lodged his application to APEGA hoping to get his P. ENG. designation. He is not wasting anytime.

" I came to Canada looking for better opportunities, for my children’s future, and my search of higher education," he says.

Stephen’s name came up on my APEGA Mentoring Program dashboard last June 2018 as a mentee candidate. Having served APEGA as a mentor in the last six years, I’ve accepted this new mentoring match right away. I had some preliminary conversations with the prospective mentee over the phone touching briefly on his professional history, goals and aspirations. In view of his ardent desire to excel, I have strongly suggested that he look very closely with what AACEi can do for him in the years ahead.

We scheduled a face-to-face meeting second week of July. It was a good chance to meet each other in person. The first two meetings in a mentoring partnership are important for getting to know each other and deciding whether we will begin a long-term mentoring partnership.

We talked about many aspects of his professional and personal visions. He mentioned his fourteen-year experience in maintenance, engineering, construction, and project works. He takes pride of having worked with world class oil and gas companies.

He is excited to be an integral part of Alberta’s work landscape, contributing to its continuing success.

Having mutually appreciated the initial engagement, we both decided to continue together. We happily signed the formal APEGA Mentoring Agreement, noting down the action plans.

PM Solution Pro will help Stephen establish his professional roots in Canada, so he can make his journey fruitful and a fulfilling one. To my mentee Stephen, we say, “All the best and welcome to the professional community of Alberta.”

NOTE: Starting last October 1, 2017, the APEGA Mentoring Program has expanded to all of 10 of APEGA’s Branches province-wide. Previously, it was only available in Edmonton and Calgary (APEGA, 2018.APEGA Mentoring Program).
