This blog https://aacekorea.tistory.com/ has been established to share reflections and practical experiences gained through cost, schedule, and risk management across domestic and international projects, from the perspective of the current leader of the AACE International Korea Section. Its purpose goes beyond organizing information, aiming instead to interpret how AACE International’s knowledge system and methodologies can be realistically applied within Korea’s institutional and project environment.

AACE International’s Total Cost Management (TCM) framework views cost, schedule, risk, value, and performance not as separate disciplines, but as an integrated system that supports decision-making across the entire project lifecycle. While internationally recognized, such standards are often regarded in Korea as theoretically robust yet difficult to apply in practice. This blog originates from that gap between global standards and domestic realities.

Accordingly, the blog reviews AACE Recommended Practices, international webinars, and overseas case studies, while critically examining their applicability and limitations within Korean public and private projects. The content is shaped by recurring questions encountered in practice and education, such as how to reflect these concepts in reports and deliberation materials, how risk should be incorporated into cost estimates, and how schedule and cost management can be effectively integrated.

This space documents reflections as both a practitioner and the Korea Section leader, covering educational explanations, comparisons between international guidelines and domestic systems, and critical insights into why risk-based decision-making often fails to function effectively in practice. While PM/CM is increasingly recognized as high value-added, many domestic projects still inadequately address uncertainty and risk, limiting systematic management and informed decision-making.

This blog seeks to responsibly embed AACE’s global standards and its philosophy of acknowledging uncertainty into Korea’s cultural, industrial, and institutional context.
