Criteria
The Houston Gulf Coast Section (HGCS) of AACE (founded 1957) has more than 1,200 members from a wide range of companies in the Greater Houston area. Our members are involved in a broad range of disciplines, including estimating, cost control, planning, scheduling, claims management, project management and management sciences. HGCS promotes the advancement of education in cost engineering and cost management through the implementation of Total Cost Management. To promote this objective, AACE HGCS is planning to initiate Academic Scholarship to full-time students pursuing a degree in Engineering, Construction Management or similar major with ambition of a career in construction or engineering profession. To qualify for this scholarship, students must meet the following requirements:
- Enrollment Status
- Must be enrolled full-time at an ABET-accredited college or university, or in an accredited Civil Engineering or Construction Management program located within the Houston region.
- Must also be enrolled full-time in the upcoming academic semester, pursuing a degree in one of the following fields:
i. Engineering
ii. Construction Management
iii. Building Construction
iv. Business Management
v. Quantity Surveying
- Academic Performance
- Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, where:
i. 4.0 = A
ii. 3.0 = B
iii. 2.0 = C
iv. 1.0 = D
- Ethical Standards
- Must be willing to adhere to the AACE International Canons of Ethics.
- Award Disbursement
- Selected recipients will receive a one-time scholarship payment. Awardees will be notified by email. The scholarships will be issued as a payment on the awardee’s behalf sent directly to the University / College financial office.
- The maximum award amount is $1,000.
- Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Applicants are strongly encouraged to complete the application form without the use of AI tools or assistance.
- Submissions that demonstrate originality and personal effort will be given higher consideration.
- Use of AI-generated content may negatively impact the likelihood of receiving the scholarship.
