Where are you from, and where did you go to school?
New Member: I am a Canadian citizen. I attended the Angelo Delzotto School of Construction Management, George Brown Polytechnic Institute, Toronto, Canada. I graduated with a double major in Construction Engineering Technology and Architectural Technology.
What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?
New Member: Apart from being a technical subject-matter expert in My profession, I also have a creative-side where I am able to create visual arts. i.e., sketching, painting.
Where do you work?
New Member: I currently work for Accenture in Toronto Canada, as a Senior Manager, Operations & Project Delivery, on various medium-to-large Construction, Infrastructure & Capital projects/programs, with working knowledge and past hands-on industry work experience on Transit, Aviation, Industrial/ Commercial/ Institutional (ICI) and Other Built-form project-types.
What do you love most about your job?
New Member: I enjoy the Problem-solving, Solutioning & Organizational delivery aspects (PDAC Cycle) typically encountered over the project development & delivery life cycle, in efforts to create/deliver Value for Clients & the Marketplace/Public.
Do you have a project story to share?
New Member: Yes, A project story is/would be the suggested consistent utilization of the ‘Lesson learned process’ for capital construction projects (after completion or In-flight) in efforts to guide/coach/mentor/train the teams/staff and the next generation of professional candidates/personnel, in support of the industry. i.e., knowledge-share
What are your future goals and aspirations for your career? Did someone inspire you to be on this career path?
New Member: My future goals high-level are to continue to create/deliver Value-for-Money for Clients and the Marketplace/Public, continue to engage CPD (continuous professional development. i.e., AACE, CMAA, CIQS, RICS, CCA/TCA & Co.) in efforts to progress to greater levels of accountability/responsibility within the corporate/marketplace environment.
What is the biggest career challenge you’ve had to overcome? What’s been your favorite or most memorable moment of your career?
New Member: A memorable moment of your career was when I successfully transitioned from practical hands-on doer/practical working knowledge (<10-yrs.) to technical advisory-level (> +10-Yrs.), and currently able to deploy both service-offering depending on Client/Market Needs assessment and ultimately Create and/or Deliver Value-for-Money.
Why did you join AACE?
New Member: I joined AACE International because I wished to be part of one of the Leading Professional Associations dedicated to establishing and upholding standards, promoting technical best practices, and providing industry certifications for cost professionals within the US construction marketplace, similar to my affiliation with the CIQS in the Canadian marketplace.
What do you like most about being an AACE member? Or what’s your favorite part of being an AACE member?
New Member: I like being an AACE member because AACE International is considered one of the Top Premier Professional Organizations globally, that provides a Total Cost Management (TCM) Framework and professional Recommended Practices (+120 RPs), and certifications (CCP, CEP, EVP) to its various member categories in efforts to ensure "industry best practices" to manage cost, time, & risks, reducing project failures and directly influencing/ensuring Projects/Program Success for our Clients, Companies & the wider Marketplace/Public.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to enter the field?
New Member: The advise I would share with someone would be to ensure that they have some form of internal passion, drive or motivation and taking ownership of their ‘5-Ws’ and the Why they wish to pursue the field of Construction, Infrastructure & Capital projects and How will they remain Motivated with CPD (continuous professional development) in efforts to remain relevant, competitive and Value-added based in order to deliver Value-for-money for their Clients, their Organization and the wider Marketplace overall. If these self-queries appear to be ‘Big or Challenging Questions/ Thoughts, then I would also suggest that the person identify and secure an Industry executive/senior management mentor to help them openly discuss the various queries and options in efforts to establish a minimum number of baseline Career growth strategy(ies) to consider and potentially implement.
