  • 1.  Content of a Cost Report

    ​Greetings,

    We are working for a Client PMO and are hiring a cost consultant for cost estimating & control. Can any one suggest what should be the content of a professional COST REPORT that we should ask our consultant to issue.

    Yahya:

     

    What is the scope of the procurement?  Working for the PMO might mean the scope is related more to process than project services, or if the PMO handles projects, it might mean project cost support.  And, is this full project life-cycle services, from pre-project budgeting to construction cost management, and maybe to post-construction cost dispute resolution?

    Hi Chris

    The consultant is hired to provide the services for a set of projects under construction. the scope is limited to the project construction (EPC) and not to the full project life cycle.
    the PMO does handle the projects to a level of "controlling" PMO.

    The basics should as follows:

    Original Budget
    Changes Approved
    Pending Changes
    Approved Budget
    Target (Performance) Budget
    Commitment To date
    ETC
    EAC
    Variance (Approved Budget - EAC)

    Add Funding if applicable 
    Reports should have some attributes to roll up by Business Unit, Programs, .....etc. just to make it effective.

    in addition to what Sami mentioned above :

    - Contingency Analysis & drawdown status.

    - Cost Flow and Cash Flow Analysis: Specifically if your client is working with time phased budgets or fiscal constrains in addition to project end ones.

    I agree with Sami and would add one additional data point, Physical % Complete.
